Today’s Reflection july 3
Evaluating The Day
Daily living is the arena in which this program finds its true mettle tested (SA 131).
Taking my Step Ten inventory in the evening has become a significant time of my day. Here I check overs the day’s events and encounters to see if I acted the way I should stay sober and in recovery.
Following the direction outlined in Twelve and Twelve, I identify those moments when I felt disturbed and as myself why I felt that way. Where was I go wrong? How can I correct it so I will not repeat the error? Should I make amends?
I also check whether I have kept my boundaries. For me, this means not going to certain places; not watching television, not going to certain sites on the Internet; and not trying to control every situation. Additionally, I inventory how I dealt with temptations to fantasize about people I saw or recall lustful thoughts.
Keeping an eye on what I did right today, such as acting in the way that my Higher Power and the SA Program want me to is important as well. If I look only at the negatives in my actions and thinking, I get a distorted view of my day.
Working this step does not take as much time as it may sound. Usually I spend about ten minutes writing unless I am led to give something more detailed attention. In that case, I willingly devote the time need to get my thinking straight. My daily personal inventory is an important part of my recovery program. The freedom and joy of living in recovery makes the time it takes to work this step worthwhile.
I thank my Higher Power for the tools of the Program.
